When a machine learns a production process and does so using its ‘senses’, finding its own way to continuous improvement, and does things that even the engineers who gave birth to it would not have imagined… well then the term ‘revolution’ is not used out of context. It may sound like the opening of a science fiction book but it is not. Cognitive Pharma Machinery exists. Today.
The language to follow will be more technical, forgive us, it was a must, but to get an idea of the extraordinariness of what is happening it is useful to get to the bottom of it.
This new technology combines Luperini’s experience in designing and manufacturing machinery and Eigengran‘s expertise in developing advanced control systems using IIoT sensors (image spectroscopy and haptic sensors) and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. The algorithms are based on self-learning neural networks (Deep Reinforcement Learning) that analyse and interpret data in real time to build predictive control models. This results in machines that can improve their control strategies over time by demonstrating cognitive capabilities.
The technology conforms to Process Analytical Technology (PAT) guidelines, facilitating the implementation of Quality by Design (QbD) in the pharmaceutical manufacturing process and representing a practical embodiment of Pharma 4.0, the pharmaceutical industry’s fourth industrial revolution.
Luperini has a new test centre in Chiesina Uzzanese, Italy, where the cognitive pilot machines can be tested. This offers the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the technology and assess its potential.
Marco Luperini, CTO of Luperini:
“Our technology is a key element in the application of PAT guidelines for oral drug production and will be a key step towards achieving pharma 4.0 practice in the pharmaceutical manufacturing process”
Massimo Lungone, CEO of Luperini, added that
“We are proud to announce the successful development and testing of the Cognitive Pharma Machinery. Our partnership with Eigengran has enabled us to create a technology that will revolutionise the pharmaceutical industry”.
Carolina Gastone, CEO of Eigengran, adds:
“We believe that this innovative technology will have a significant impact on the pharmaceutical industry and improve product quality and safety”.
The partnership between Luperini and Eigengran is committed to providing innovative solutions to the pharmaceutical industry. The development of Cognitive Pharma Machinery is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
